Unique Fragrances | Beauty
I have written about fragrances a few times on my little blog and also about finding the perfect fragrance because until last year, I never really used to wear scents! However that all changed when I found my beloved Jo Malone scent.
I wanted to talk today about the unique scents out there from Miller Harris with their zesty fragrances to Clive Christian gourmand perfume to Jo Malone with their luxurious range. There are so many scents out there that you can't find on the high street and I think that's a big selling point as it also adds a little dash of mystery when people ask what you're wearing.
Obviously Jo Malone is one of my FAVE brands and the Peony Blush Suede will always be my scent regardless of how cliche it is but the main reason I love it because because the scent combinations are different. It has that floral hit but it mellows and deepens the longer it's on me which really lingers until bedtime! I do also adore the Jo Malone shops as well, I run right in and literally give everything a spritz which makes it easier to find that unique scent. I would also suggest spraying it on yourself because some fragrances do smell a little different when they are actually on you!
Another way to try unique fragrances is to buy travel sets, let's face it, buying fragrances can be really damn expensive but if you look for those little travel sets not only do you get a few handy sized fragrances but you get to try a few different scents that you probably wouldn't have thought to try before! Most travel sets have about 3 different fragrances but the wonderful thing is they all have similar notes whilst being different, so if you like one of fragrances the chances are you may also like the others. I really love the way this brand layers scents together, it's something more than just "floral".
If you wanted to go super luxury there are some very expensive but utterly divine fragrances from Clive Christian, I was kindly sent a couple of samples and Cosmos Flower is just so beautiful but way out of my price range but if you have the budget and want something truly unique, you could check them out!
The best way to find your perfect unique scent is by giving everything a try, keep searching and keep looking for something new.

Finding the perfect Fragrance | Lifestyle
Fragrance is a tricky one right? I growing up I long to be one of those girls who carries around a little bottle to spritz every now and then but my problem was finding something I actually liked.
Even when I was young, perfume of some sort would be on my Christmas list and not because I actually liked it or that I had ever smelled it before but because I liked the adverts or it was in Elle magazine and I so desperately wanted to be as sophisticated as the women in Elle. For the first few days of having the perfume I would spray it and then about a week later I would hate it. The problem is I find so many fragrances just to strong and chemically. All the popular fragrances in Boots seemed to smell the same, too sweet or too bitter. My best dear Vernia loves a scent, that girl is always spritzing and always smells incredible, she has a very good nose for scents. So this year I thought, you know what I am just going to go on a proper hunt and I'm dragging her with me.
I went back to the UK in March and met Vernia in London and we went into a Jo Malone store so we could have a little smell. Let's face it Jo Malone has reached cult status in the blogging world so of course I tried some scents that my fave bloggers liked but they just didn't suit me. I would smell one, give it to Vernia and she would give me her opinion, we spent quite a lot of time there but I genuinely wanted to try everything because I fee that Jo Malone has a lot of unique scents that aren't stereotypically women's or men's if you know what I mean. I ended up settling on Peony and Blush Suede which in itself just sounds like a bloggers dream but the reason why I picked this one was because it wasn't too over the top with floral scents or too sweet or too heavy it was just right, sounding a bit like Goldilocks there aren't I? I opted to buy the smaller version of the bottle because I just know what I am like.
Once I started using it I loved it and then a week later I started to hate it. I was so annoyed because I was sure that this would be my scent...so I just carried on using it, but I started adding it to my bed sheets or just putting it on my clothes as opposed to wearing it on my skin and then I started falling in love with it again. I think my problem is that I need to get used to the scent, I needed to find my way of wearing it and the next thing I knew I had used the entire bottle so it was time for an upgrade.
I think when finding the fragrance that's right for you, don't look at the ads, don't look at what everyone else is wearing just use your nose, spend 20 mins in Jo Malone smelling every product, go to Boots and try everything, try something unique like the Library of Fragrance scents.

Miller Harris La Collective Voyage Fragrances | Beauty
Terre d'iris has notes of bergamot and orange making it quite a citrus fragrance but it also has floral undertones with rose and patchouli. I'd say this one is quite a strong scent and not one I would wear everyday but for me it's more of an evening fragrance.La Pluie is a lovely floral one and I could really pick up on the lavender in this one but it also has jasmine and ylang ylang in it. This one is probably my least favourite purely because I'm not the biggest lavender fan but it is still a nice scent, I just won't use it as much as the other two. Lastly we have Tangerine Vert which is a super zesty, fresh fragrance that I am in love with. Tangerine Vert is just the most wonderful fresh fragrance that after a few seconds turns into a virant lemon/lime scent. It's so perfect for the summer.
I really love this range, each one is a unique scent but also they really complement each other. I think it's a wonderful gift idea for people who love to be a little different with their fragrance selections. For me, Miller Harris as a brand really understands the quality of the scents going into each bottle which makes each spray feels incredibly luxurious.
There is a Miller Harris store in Covent Garden, London which I would definitely suggest you take a visit and try out for yourself because the fragrances are just wonderful.

Miller Harris Poirier d'un Soir Fragrance | Beauty
This is going to be a bit of a different post today because it's about Fragrance which isn't something I usually cover because I'm a little fussy with scents but you know sometimes when you find something you actually love you have to shout about it.
To give a bit of back ground, I was actually given this as a gift along with a different range which I'll write about in a separate post, but honestly, it's the sweetest thing any one has ever done for me so I was thrilled when these arrived completely unexpected.
If you aren't familiar with the brand Miller Harris, they are a niche fragrance house who do a unique range of scents, perfumes, candles, body washes and lotions. They are a luxury brand because of the price points but also because of the quality of the products. They do resell on sites such as John Lewis, Feel Unique and Very Exclusive so that kind of gives you an idea about the brand.
Poirier d'un Soir is actually part of their new range and is just wonderful. I'm a massive fan of zesty/citrus fragrances and this one has really wonderful hints of that. When you first spray it on you get the citrus scent immediately but then it almost mellows to a sweet soft fragrance. It's described as "Evocative of the warm honeyed blooms that encircle a pear orchard at dusk" doesn't that just create the most delightful image?
For those of you that want to know a little more about the specific notes the website highlights them as:-
- TOP: bergamot Italy
- HEART: rum extract, rose Turkey, papyrus India
- BASE: birch tar oil, patchouli oil, white cedarwood
The thing that I like about Miller Harris is that the fragrances really are different, I stopped buying perfumes at places like Boots because every single one was nice but really lacked some of the subtle and simplistic touches like that of Miller Harris.
For me this is perfect of everyday, it's fresh, light and sweet.
